Karastan Certified Installer Program Benefits Retailers

August 09, 2007 - Since 1996, Karastan, in partnership with Jim Walker—President of the American Floor Covering Institute, CEO of the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association and 2005 Recipient of the World Floor Covering Association’s Industry Hall of Fame™—has been combating the carpet industries’ biggest challenge—installation. Through a program of extensive skills training, Karastan has certified more than 2,000 installers. Today, the company’s investment in quality installation continues with the launch of a totally revamped Karastan Certified Installer Program that incorporates the latest tools, techniques and carpet constructions in a comprehensive combination of training, DVDs and Resource Guides.

Retailers and installers participating in Karastan’s Certified Installer Program undergo two-days of seminars, hands-on training and skills testing. Before certification is awarded, installers must pass a written exam, construct seams in various carpet styles (including woven), professionally align patterns, demonstrate correct power-stretching and trimming procedures, and upholster a stair. All installers are also graded on appearance and “people skills”.

Two-weeks prior to the program, a Study Guide and DVD are given to attendees so they can begin preparing for the certification tests. Accompanying this material is Karastan’s new Certified Installer Resource Guide containing over 60 pages of installation information, photos and tufted/woven carpet guidelines, along with a comprehensive Karastan Glossary.

“Karastan’s Certified Installer Program offers the most comprehensive, up-to-date training in the industry,” says Jim Walker, Karastan’s director of installation training. “It is driven by dedicated Karastan Sales Associates, who organize and identify dealers that want to provide the finest installations available. This is a true partnership between all parties—Karastan, its dealers, and the installation professionals.”

“Karastan’s installer program has been extremely valuable to our store, our installers, and our customers,” responds John Taylor, president of Taylor Carpet One in Myers, Florida. “I would love for our team to have access to quarterly trainings.” Steve Haber, president of G. Fried in Sarastota, Florida agrees, “We’ve participated in every Karastan installation program in this area. The benefit for our installers is unmeasured. Our customers receive a degree of installation excellence that is not offered by my competitors. I highly recommend this program for every Karastan dealer.” Karastan covers the entire country, offering numerous Certified Installer Programs. Following successful completion of the required materials, Karastan Certified Installers receive a certificate, Photo ID Badge, Karastan toolbox and/or truck decals, a Karastan Certified Installer shirt and the opportunity to participate in various offerings in the future. Ongoing support is offered through a toll-free help line.
