Wool and Allergies

Karastan chooses to use New Zealand wool over other wool types because it offers superior advantages:

• Wool fibers are too long and too coarse to be inhaled and therefore do not affect asthma sufferers.
• Wool is a non-allergenic fiber and does not promote the growth of bacteria or dust mites, or give off harmful emissions.
• Dust mites live mainly in beds and upholstery, which have the right conditions of temperature and humidity; carpets are too cold, too dry, and too exposed to light.
• Wool contributes to indoor air purity because it absorbs air pollutants and gases faster and better than nylon.
• Cumulative evidence strongly suggests that carpets have a beneficial effect on people’s health, provided they are maintained regularly and properly.
